And the Thermaltake Dr. Power is one of the better ones available. What makes it one of the better ones? First of all, it reads each of the rails on each connection from the PSU. Not just telling you the rail is bad using colored lights. And many PSU testers are notorious for just telling there is power to the rails whether they are low or high. The Dr. Power II will also test for stability on the different rails and alarm you of this

Thermaltake’s Dr. Power II gives you a quick and simple way to make sure that you are getting the voltage you are supposed to from each of the individual rails (or rail) in your power supply. We do wish there was more controls to see aggregate power and amperage, but we know to get those we would have to spend considerably more. In the end we found that Dr. Power II very easy to use and a cool device to have on hand and really with a $40 price tag it is something that is well within most peoples’ budgets.

Available for just under $40.00 USD ($37.95 last we checked), the Thermaltake Dr. Power II power supply tester is truly a very handy item to have in your PC tools arsenal. It will quickly and efficiently identify any bad voltage rail and identify which power lead the fault is coming from. The Dr. Power II can save you a lot of time diagnosing a troublesome computer. The red screen and accompanying alarm when a bad voltage is detected leaves no doubt you have a problem with the power supply you are testing. If you are a PC repair technician or a DIY’er that likes to do things themselves then this is a must have item! If you are in the market for a Power Supply Tester that is easy to use, will test any power supply on the market today and has the ability to connect any currently available power lead, then the Dr. Power II is exactly what you are looking for.

Leaving their limitations, the universal tester Dr. Power II, is more ergonomic than most models on the market from other manufacturers and even of the Thermaltake. Moreover, its large screen is the best of this device, which will allow us to read quickly and smoothly, thanks to their proper viewing angle horizontally and vertically. Easy connection and management do the rest to measure the rails and monitored in real time so enjoyable. Except for what happened in the upper panel connections, is Recommended by islaBitFor all those seeking comfort and speed of measurement, be highly desirable if this operation should be repeated many times in many food sources, regardless of economic purchase too.

In conclusion, the Dr. Power II is a quick way to test for trouble-shooting a problematic build. Although it won’t tell you what the problem is if your PSU is working, it can at least eliminate one potential part of the problem. It’s always a process of elimination when it comes down to it. But, if it's a malfunctioning PSU, or just a dead one all together, then you have your answer quickly.

To summarize, the Thermaltake Dr. Power II does exactly what it says it will do, it will tell you if your power supply is out to lunch, and point out what part is out to lunch as well.
There are lots of pluses and only one negative thing, though it does irk me.  As a result, the Thermaltake Dr. Power II PSU tester gets a rating of 8.8/10 and a Recommended badge.

There are all kinds of power supply failures and while most end with the PSU destroyed thru a mix of sparks and smoke the others can be a little more difficult to detect.  Using a device like the Thermaltake Dr Power II will not only help streamline the testing process but also allow you to test each rail independently and determine exactly what is wrong.a

For the price I think the Dr Power II is well worth it, it will help you figure out if your power supply has an issue or not. The display is nice, it’s much nicer than a bunch of LEDs lighting up and you have to figure out what they mean. On the display you’ll also learn what the voltages are, which can help you even further in diagnosing any issues there might be.

It’s a simple device, and it simplifies the process of quick diag, it also serves as a replacement to your volt meter if you are checking voltage output on power supplies.  This without the need for a jumper on the 24pin to power up the PSU.  All in all, if you test more than 4 PSU‘s a year, this will pay for itself in time savings.

Pros:
+ Super Simple
+ FAST to test
+ Accurate voltage indicators
+ Much cheaper than an industrial PSU test rig

I have used many testers in the past and most of them are either a green LED for good or a red LED for bad. Which is great for a fast test but if you want to know what the actually voltage being put out by the PSU and you do not have or know how to use an expensive voltage multimeter then the Thermaltake Dr.Power II is for you.
